5th of June, 2022; this country happened again, the ugly beast reared its head again and cackled as it feasted on the blood of 70+ people whose undoing was going to worship the Lord, our father.
A gory tale, one filled with anguish and pain. Writing this and I couldn’t even cry, no emotions whatsoever which shows how Nigeria has damaged us. Is it ever going to stop? No one knows.
The innocent girl in the white little dress drenched in blood, how can I get the image out of my head?
It can be me tomorrow, or my loved ones and what will happen after then? Absolutely nothing. We’ll cry, beg for justice, pray to God to take the pain away but it never really goes away, why? Because while still mourning for the loss of our kins, the beast comes again and takes another and another and another until we are nothing but empty souls or empty bag of bones deep down in the soil, Mother Earth. Maybe then, we will find rest.
JAPA? When will people realize that fleeing the country does not mean you’ve survived Nigeria. Even if you can take your immediate family with you, what about your favorite niece, nephew or that woman that sells beverages on your street who you’ve grown to love, what if Nigeria happens to them?
Nigeria is bleeding and like a hemorrhagic patient in the ER, simply praying will not stop her blood from soiling the ground. Get your PVCs they said, but even if you do that, votes do not count in this God-forsaken country. What if they stop you from voting? What if they take your life if you prove too stubborn in performing your civic duty?
So what do we do again? Where do we go? Do we cut off the beast’s head? Cut one head and five more will grow in place.
We turn back to prayers and wait for the beast to come again, only hoping it gives us more time to find a way to remove its heart.
A nation of nothingness, emptiness, broken wills.
We will find peace
or maybe not.
PS: I wrote this on the day of the incident but I had no strength to share it.
I’ll send another mail out tomorrow sha if I’m in the mood to share the whirlwind trip of this week🫠
