Kindness.
Kindness: It's being selfless, caring, compassionate, and unconditionally kind. Like love, it takes practice to understand and feel it. We share love with others through kind acts such as a smile, a nice word, an unexpected deed, or a planned surprise.
I had a conversation with an acquaintance yesterday and it was a long talk about kindness so I just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences.
Hi guys🌚, it’s been long 😒 I’m very much aware but I’ve been so occupied with school and life generally. Apologies.
Back to the koko of the letter, I feel like this generation has lost touch with the true meaning of kindness and it all boils down to how we were raised individually. There is a saying that has stuck with me throughout my life and no matter what the society says about it now, I still hold the belief very firm ‘Givers never lack’ or let me rephrase ‘People that gives wholeheartedly never lack’.
I’m big on being selfish when it comes to choosing between myself and other people but it has never affected my kindness because of the way I was raised. My parents will gladly give up their last morsel of food for a total stranger. As a child, it irked me so much seeing my parents give out things that could be of use to us at home but the older I get, the more I understand.
Now, giving does not boil down to material things alone. Kind words, big smile on your face when people ask you for help or advice can go a long way. I had so many potential good friends but most of them lacked the true context of kindness. You can’t be my friend and I’ll be scared to ask you to do minute acts for me because I do not know how you’ll react (based on past experiences). I am the friend you could call on at 2am and I’ll answer you promptly but apart from my family (and my man 🌚) and maybe one person, I’ve not really found people to reciprocate those acts.
I had a friend that complained about money all the time and every time they complained, I always subtly ‘enter’ them and say ‘when you had money, who did you give?’. It’s laughable, I know but for my 22 years of life, there has not been a moment that giving and being kind to people has not worked for me. I feel like if you give out 1 naira because you know the person is really really in need, there is no way God will allow you to be helpless when you’re in the same position.
We pray to God every time for help and to see favor wherever we go but how many times have you helped people? How many times have you been in the position to favor people and you did it wholeheartedly?
If you feel like you’re always dealing with one thing or another and you’re constantly praying to God to make life easy for you, you should search within yourself, how many people have you made life easy for?
So be kind today.
Be kind with your words.
Be kind with your actions.
Be a safe haven for those that are in need.
Give people today, it might be a big smile or a big hug or money🌚😂 but make sure you give.
Proverbs 28:27
‘Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses’.
Love,
Adesewa.
